How can I help as a postpartum doula?

Support

The fourth trimester is a transitional period of many physical, mental, and emotional changes, but should also be a time of recovery! Traditionally mothers had an extensive support system during this time, but in our fast-paced society, this has unfortunately been mostly lost. My goal is to fill this gap and bring back some of the traditional postpartum support that we are missing in our society today. As a doula, I’m here to support YOU.

Education

Doulas are experts in the typical adjustment into new parenthood or the addition of a child, we are trained in the changes and challenges that a family may experience after the birth or adoption of their baby. From feeding your baby to healing yourself, I’ll be there to guide you and offer tips and tricks when you feel lost or overwhelmed.

Resources

Scouring the internet, reading books, searching for the resources and help you need can feel overwhelming and exhausting, especially as a new parent. Let me do some of that work for you, just think of me as your new baby concierge! I’ll be there with resources and referrals when you need them.

Each visit I will take time to assess your current needs so that I can best support you in the ways you need it most. My goal is to work with the rhythms of your home to nurture your new family.

Your visit might include:

Time to talk about and process the birth experience
Support for partners
Support in the adjustment of older siblings
Breast/bottle feeding assistance
Newborn care education and support (bathing, swaddling, feeding, baby-wearing, etc.)
Light household tasks (baby laundry, tidying up, etc.)
Snack preparation or a hot cup of tea
Infant care when parents need rest
Referrals to community resources as needed
